Icon Coffee is a unique blend of vintage charm and contemporary style, drawing inspiration from the elegant motifs of Art Deco and the sleek lines of mid-century design. One of its standout features is the back bar, crafted to echo the aesthetics of early 20th-century lawyers' cabinets, complete with functional doors that add an element of authenticity and intrigue to the space.

The lighting fixtures further enhance the ambiance, with each piece custom-made to complement the overall theme. This attention to detail is not surprising considering the creator's involvement in developing a lighting line at the time of Icon Coffee's conception.

Using Victorian library, aviary, and train station as touchstones for the design of Zeitgeist Coffee was an unusual approach that combines elements of history, nature, and transportation to create a unique and compelling atmosphere.

Victorian libraries are often characterized by rich wood tones, intricate detailing, and a sense of grandeur.  The aviary touchstone adds a refreshing and rejuvenating atmosphere to the coffee shop, providing a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.  Train stations often feature a blend of industrial and vintage elements, with exposed brick, metal accents, and nostalgic signage.

Le Caviste, Downtown wine bar,

Seattle Washington.

Projects / portfolio

The inspiration behind Le Caviste was to capture the essence of a traditional Parisian wine bar within the confines of an unusually shaped space. Despite the unconventional dimensions, I with owner, David Butler sought to evoke the cozy ambiance and timeless charm characteristic of such establishments in the heart of Paris.

To achieve this, custom light fixtures were crafted to infuse the space with a sense of drama and sophistication. These bespoke fixtures not only illuminate the surroundings but also serve as artistic focal points, enhancing the overall ambiance of the wine bar.

In addition to the custom lighting, a strategically placed oversized mirror was employed to visually expand the space. By cleverly manipulating perception, the mirror creates the illusion of depth and spaciousness, effectively counteracting the limitations imposed by the compact footprint of the establishment.

Yeck/ Kris Residence

Ellensburg, Washington.

Projects / portfolio

The inspiration for the Yeck/Kris residence was a blend of modern design meets a rural grange hall aesthetic with a commitment to sustainability and the use of salvaged materials. Drawing from an ethos of environmental consciousness, I opted to incorporate reclaimed materials wherever possible, lending a unique character to the space.

In the kitchen, for instance, schoolroom flat files were repurposed as cabinets, adding a touch of history and functionality to the modern culinary space. An outdoor spiral staircase crafted with reclaimed fir provides both a practical means of access and a visually striking architectural feature, marrying form and function seamlessly.

Custom-made light fixtures further contribute to the individuality of the residence, serving as focal points that illuminate and accentuate the space. Additionally, ample windows were integrated into the design to maximize natural light and create an open, airy atmosphere, effectively making the modest 1000 square feet feel more expansive than it actually is.

MOMO Boutique was a men’s and women’s clothing store with some home furnishing. We built this space out on a very limited budget utilizing off the shelf elements as well as salvaged items, and created a space that was functional and efficient. MOMO was open for over 10 years when the owners decided to retire.
